The right support, at the right moment, changes what a field becomes.

Ninth House works with funders and institutions who have identified something important emerging, and need to build the conditions around it that allow it to last.

Most frontier fields have enough vision and enough founders. What they lack are the systems to hold it together. No shared language. No governance. No mechanism to coordinate the actors who should be working together. Momentum without infrastructure doesn't compound, it fragments.

Ninth House works at this gap. We help investors, philanthropists and institutions identify where strategic intervention can help an emerging field stabilise, gain legitimacy and build the structures it needs to grow on its own terms.

THE FOUNDER

Kate Armstrong - Strategist & World-Builder

I'm Kate Armstrong — strategist, field-builder, and founder of Ninth House.

Over more than a decade leading international foundations across science, technology and governance, I kept encountering the same problem: brilliant ideas, committed funders, and no shared infrastructure to hold it together. The right people in the room, operating from entirely different realities. Global momentum with no mechanism to coordinate. Capital with nowhere effective to land.

I founded Ninth House to work on that problem directly. I take on a small number of collaborations each year, each led by me personally — with the depth and continuity that consequential work requires.

Modes of engagement

Field Diagnostics

Intelligence

High-resolution mapping of unmapped domains to identify structural signals and bottlenecks.

Operational World Building

Infrastructure

Designing the containers, protocols, shared values, and governance needed to move from theory to utility.

Principal Advisory

Guardrails

An independent sounding board to vet proposals, mitigate risk, and ensure long-term durability.

Active research fields

We are actively embedded in and exploring the following domains.

Direct inquiry

Ninth House grounds moments of transition in practical tools. We work at the point where frontier ideas meet the structures needed to make it real, translating complexity into something that can be governed, funded, and built upon.

I take on a small number of collaborations each year. Each one is led by me directly, with the depth and continuity that consequential work requires.
